Recuerdos de la Alhambra

I don’t know how old you are, but when I was a kid there was a program on TV called “Out Of Town”. It starred (if starred is the right word in the days before TV stars), a man called Jack Hargreaves. He was one of the folk that was green before it became a by-word. He was one of the Salt Of The Earth types, horse & cart, fishing, hunting, and really enjoying the country in which he lived. (England)

This series had a theme tune to it that took me until last year to track down. And it was quite accidental at that. I had just been intruduced to the music of a clasical-guitar god by the name of Pepe Romero. It was while listening to his amazing music that I recognized that old theme tune.

It’s a piece called “Recuerdos de la Alhambra”, meaning “Memories of Alhambra” for our non-Spanish speakers.

I have been to the Alhambra in Spain, it’s beautiful, and the music now has a dual meaning for me. It both transports me back to my childhood and more innocent times, and whisks me back to the Alhambra in Spain. Plus the added benefit of having it played by someone I consider the worlds number one classical guitarist. I mean bar none!

So, let’s hear it.
